What you need to know about Rotherham

Located in South Yorkshire, Rotherham is situated just six miles from Sheffield and has a population of around 265,000. The town is known for its industrial heritage, having played a significant role in the steel and coal industries, and is home to several historical sites, including the stunning Wentworth Woodhouse, one of the largest stately homes in Europe.

Rotherham’s town centre is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions. The Old Market area has been revitalised, with the bustling Rotherham Markets offering everything from fresh produce to unique local crafts. The town also offers a diverse range of events throughout the year, including seasonal festivals and markets.

Rotherham United Football Club, based at the New York Stadium, is a source of local pride, drawing support from the community and visitors alike. For outdoor enthusiasts, Clifton Park offers green spaces, playgrounds, and a museum that provides insights into the town’s history. In addition, Rother Valley Country Park is a popular spot for walking, water sports, and cycling.

The town is well-connected via the M1 and M18 motorways, and Rotherham Central railway station provides easy access to Sheffield, Leeds, and beyond. Rotherham also benefits from recent regeneration projects, including the £170 million Forge Island development, which will bring a cinema, restaurants, and a hotel to the heart of the town. These investments are part of wider efforts to support economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors.

With a focus on community, history, and modern development, Rotherham is becoming an increasingly vibrant place to live, work, and visit.
